Week Recap: Rugby Wins at UMBC, Soccer Goes Undefeated

Not even a hurricane could stop the Crusaders from tallying up three wins over the weekend, as Christendom rugby locked up its first win and both soccer teams routed Penn State Mont Alto.

With Hurricane Florence bearing down on the East Coast, all of Christendom's sports games were moved further north over the weekend. The change in location did not matter to the rugby team — home field advantage or not, they roughed up University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) to the tune of 62-0. The win marked Christendom's first of the season, with eight different players scoring tries, including five scoring for the first time as Crusaders. The Crusaders are now 1-1 on the season.

At Penn State Mont Alto, Crusader soccer looked to bounce back from a tough loss to Shaw University last weekend and wasted no time in doing so. James Foeckler started the scoring within the first four minutes and Christendom never looked back, with both Pete Day and Joe O'Reilly scoring hat tricks in a 9-0 victory. Freshman Pablo Boada came up with his first win as goalie as well, blocking all three of Penn State's shots on goal. The Crusaders are now 2-1 on the season.

The Lady Crusaders felt a similar feeling coming into their game, after a 12-0 loss to Shaw and 9-2 loss to Washington Adventist last week. Gemma Youngman wiped that game out of Christendom's mind within the opening nine minutes, and added an exclamation point with another goal less than two minutes later. She finished the game with an additional two, with Annie McGraw also scoring multiple times in Christendom's 9-2 win. The Lady Crusaders are now 3-3 on their season.

While Lady Crusader volleyball had their game postponed, they will next play at home against Washington Adventist on September 18. Men's soccer will play Marymount University on the 19th, while Lady Crusader soccer and Crusader rugby will both head on the road. Crusader cross-country will play a meet at Shenandoah University this coming weekend.
