Cross Country Team Update

Cross Country Team Update

This Fall semester has not been a normal one, and athletics are no different.  Like the other Varsity Sports at Christendom, the Cross Country has gone above and beyond in the face of the various Covid challenges to practice, workout, and safely run and compete again other small colleges and area runners.  The XC teams’ manager, Joe Ellefson, shared this: “Although this season proved uniquely difficult in terms of sporting events, Cross Country was lucky enough to still maintain somewhat of a semblance of normality. We were blessed to have been given the opportunity to race in a few community races up in Winchester, Virginia. Even though it wasn't a regular season, we are thankful to be able to compete and are excited to continue moving forward with the sport.”

These sentiments are held among all members of the team, and captain, Bridget Duffy, expressed her joy with the team this season.  “Despite the cancellation of our regular meet season, I am so happy with our Cross Country season and so proud of all the hard work and dedication that my team showed as we trained for 4 races. The energy and commitment rivaled that of past seasons, and we were all so grateful to have the chance to run together and race together.”  The extent that the Cross Country team has gone through in order to still participate in races is admirable.  They even have a few runners who qualify for the Final Race on Saturday, November 21.  From the women: Margaret Kolesar, Mary Grace Siwko, and Bridget Duffy their captain.  Among the men: Thomas Baird, Noah Wollersheim, Andrew Smith, and Peter Williams.  If you see any of these runners, congratulate them on their amazing season!

We would also like to thank Coach Andy Marrocco, Head Cross Country Coach at Shenandoah University, for helping to coordinate these Cross Country races at Kernstown Battlefield XC Course this past Fall.  Lastly, thank you to Coach Becca and Coach Hugh for their hard work and commitment to the runners the past few months.
