Six Student-Athletes Named to Virginia Academic All-State Team

Six Christendom student-athletes were named to the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) Academic All-State team for the 2021-22 academic year. Recognized for their efforts on the field and in the classroom, the student-athletes together had a GPA average of 3.65 for the academic year, representing the best of the college's athletic program.

To be named to Virginia's academic all-state team, students must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher. Christendom's six honorees cleared that standard, balancing a heavy college workload with a rigorous athletic schedule throughout the academic year. Two of the honorees even competed in two sports — a testament to their impressive discipline.

Anne Heisler and Owen Kennedy each competed in two sports during the 2021-22 academic year, with Heisler playing volleyball and basketball and Kennedy playing rugby and basketball. In the case of Kennedy, he even led the men's rugby team to a 15s National Championship victory and a 7s National Championship runner-up as team captain, all while excelling in a challenging mathematics major.

From the men's soccer team, Mark LaRochelle and Pablo Boada were also honorees. LaRochelle earned a 3.82 GPA while Boada earned a 3.98 for the academic year. Finally, Frank Scarchilli and Thomas Dunphy also were honored, representing the college's men's baseball team. They finished with a 3.8 and 3.5 GPA respectively.

The six Christendom Crusaders joined student-athletes from 36 other schools in Virginia in receiving honors, including student-athletes from Virginia Tech, the University of Virginia, and George Mason University.

These honors come in addition to nineteen Christendom student athletes earning USCAA Academic All-American honors for the winter and spring seasons and eighteen student-athletes earning honors for the fall season. All of these honors wrapped up an incredible season for Christendom's athletics program, which witnessed a National Championship, multiple Player of the Week and All-American awards, and more.
