Crusaders Fall in Close Game to Gators

Hampton, VA- Crusader Baseball traveled south to Hampton, VA this past Friday, 3/25, to take on the Gators of Thomas Nelson in a 9-inning game. Despite playing a defensive gem, the Crusaders fell to the Gators by a score of 6-4.

The Gators jumped out to the early 1-0 lead, scoring in the first inning. However, after falling behind early the Crusaders rallied to tie the game in the second inning, 1-1. Kevin Dow (Senior/ Manassas, VA) pitched a clean second and third inning for the Crusaders. However, in the fourth the gators got to Dow for three runs, making the score 4-1. The Crusaders again rallied to scoring two in the fifth and one in the sixth to tie the game four apiece. In the bottom of the eighth, the Gators plated two runs to give them the 6-4 lead. The Crusaders fought hard in the top of the ninth but could not come back.

The Crusader's offense had its chances to take the game but could not come up with critical hits. The team ended the game with 11 runners left on base.

Max Henrie (Senior/ Goleta, CA) and Sean Corcoran (Freshman/ Lawrenceville, NJ) led the way for the Crusaders on offense. Henrie, out of the six hole went 3-5 and Corcoran, who batted eight, went 3-4 with a walk.

Next Up: The Crusaders stay on the road on Thursday, 3/31, as they take on the Central Penn Knights in a double-header.
