Crusaders Split Season Finale vs MACU Mustangs

Front Royal, VA- The Crusaders took on the MACU Mustangs in their season finale this past Wednesday, 4/26, in an exciting double header. After dropping the first game in a tough fight the Crusaders bounced back, coming out victorious in game two.

Game 1- After a scoreless first inning the Mustangs were able to notch three unearned runs in the second, jumping out to a 3-0 lead. Thomas Sullivan (Junior/ Omaha, NE), who was on the mound for the Crusaders, got in a rhythm, keeping the Mustangs off the board over the next three innings. However, more errors cost the Crusaders in the 6th inning as the Mustangs were able to plate two more to go up 5-0. Although the Crusaders out hit the Mustangs eight to five, they were unable to get hits when it counted most, the team being held scoreless in the first game, leading to a 5-0 loss.

Game 2- The Mustangs again took the lead first in game two, the score being 1-0 after two. However, in the 3rd and 4th innings the Crusaders finally broke through, scoring twice in the third and exploding for a five-run 4th to take the 7-1 lead. The Mustangs were not going to go down without a fight as they scored one in the 5th and then four in the 6th. Despite the fact that the game was starting to slip, the pitching for the Crusaders buckled down as they retired the final five batters of the game in order to win their final game of the season 7-6.
