Crusaders Win Thriller on the Road

Clifton Forge, VA- The Crusaders went on the road to take on the Roadrunners of Dabney S. Lancaster C.C. in a rematch from December 7, 2021. The Roadrunners won the first match by 11, but the Crusaders got their revenge in a 69-68 thriller. 

After losing the first half by 11-points the Crusaders came roaring back to take the lead midway through the second half. The Teams battled back forth, and with one minute left in the game, the Crusaders were down by 4, by a score of 62-66. Joe Dotson (Junior/ Manassas, VA) hit a big 3-point shot to bring the game within one, 66-65. The Crusaders fouled, and the Roadrunners sank both free-throws making it, 68-65. The next possession, John Paul Vander Woude (Sophomore/ Nokesville, VA) corralled an offensive rebound, dribbled out to the three-point line and buried a three-pointer while getting fouled, resulting in the opportunity to take the lead with 4 seconds left. Vander Woude buried the free throw, giving the Crusaders the lead 69-68. The Roadrunners were able to generate a look that would have won them the game, but it caromed off the back rim, resulting in a crazy win for the Crusaders. 

Vander Woude led the Crusaders in scoring, with 28 points, followed by Owen Kennedy (Senior/ Mount Vision, NY) who had 13 points and 11 rebounds.
