Crusaders Fall in Close Game to Apprentice

Front Royal, VA – Christendom Crusaders Men's Basketball team fell 63-70 in a close home match against The Apprentice School Builders on Friday, January 27.

Both teams came out strong to start the game, the lead swaying back and forth between the two. 10 minutes into the game a deep 3-pointer from Andrew Heisler (Junior/Front Royal, VA) gave Crusaders the momentum. Later in the first half, Bobby Vander Woude (Freshman/Nokesville, VA) made a three, soon followed by a steal again swaying momentum in the Crusaders favor. The Crusaders could not hold the lead however, and the Builders finished the half on top 35-32.

The second half brought new intensity for the Crusaders as John Paul Vander Woude (Junior/Nokesville, VA) drained a three to bring them back on top. Despite again losing the lead, the Crusaders continued to push. With seconds remaining, Joe Dotson (Senior/Manassas, VA) buried three from the corner, to give the Crusaders a chance at one final push. Despite the continued aggression from Christendom, the Builders remained on top to beat the Crusaders with a final score of 70-63.

J. Vander Woude led the team with 18 points in the game, followed by Andrew Heisler who had 10. B. Vander Woude also had an impressive game, leading the team with 4 steals.

Next Up: The Crusaders will face the Penn State Mont Alto Lions at home on Wednesday, February 1st at 8:00pm.
