John Paul Vander Woude Scores 1000th Career Point in Decisive Victory over Royals

Front Royal, VA – The Christendom men's basketball team defeated the Regent Royals 82-55 on Thursday, January 18.  John Paul Vander Woude (Senior/Nokesville, VA) scored his 1000th point in the victory.

The Crusaders came out strong, going up 6-0 with 3-pointers by Peter Ethridge (Senior/Phoenix, AZ) and Andrew Heisler (Senior/Front Royal, VA) on their first two possessions. The team maintained their lead throughout the first half, and with eight minutes to go went up 23-10 on another three from Ethridge. The Royals answered with an 11-0 run to cut the Crusader lead to 23-21 with four minutes left in the half. Bobby Vander Woude (Sophomore/Nokesville, VA) stopped the bleeding with a much needed layup, and a 3-pointer by Heisler extended the Crusader lead back to seven. B. Vander Woude hit a buzzer-beater to end the half, giving the Crusaders the 39-28 advantage at the half.

The Crusaders continued to dominate in the second half, going up 48-28 in the first two minutes of the half.  From there, the Crusaders continued to click on offense and never looked back. With twelve minutes to go, John Paul Vander Woude (Senior/Nokesville, VA) hit a 3-pointer, scoring his 1000th career point for Christendom, click here to watch Vander Woude score 1,000.  The Crusaders built on their lead throughout the rest of the game, outscoring the Royals 43-27 in the second half to secure the 82-55 victory.

Bobby Vander Woude led the Crusaders in scoring with 24 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists. Peter Ethridge had an excellent game, he finished with a double-double of 18 points, including five 3-pointers, and 10 rebounds.
