Crusader's Rugby Take Down Hampden-Sydney to Improve to 2-0

Front Royal, VA - Saturday, September 18, Christendom's Men's Rugby took home their second win of the season against Hampden-Sydney, with a dominant 64-0 performance.

The Crusaders took the lead early in the game, Hugh Wingate(Sophomore/Madison, VA) scored the team's first try within the first seven minutes.  Just moments later, John Ascough(Freshman/Blackrock, Ireland)) scored the team's second try making it a 14-0 game. In the last six minutes of the half John Kennedy (Freshman/Mount Vision, NY) and Ascough scored Christendom's third and fourth try. In the final minute of the half, Wingate broke through again, scoring his second try of the game. Thomas Santschi(Junior/Manassas, VA) connected on three of five conversion kicks, and Andrew Mead(Sophomore/Nokesville, VA) buried his only attempt of the first half. After an impressive display of talent the Crusader's took a 33-0 lead into the half.

The second half brought more of the, as the Crusaders kept the try machine rolling. Christopher Usher(Freshman/Chandler, AZ) started the half strong coming out with his first try in the forty-sixth minute. Six minutes later Kennedy scored his second try. James Hambleton(Junior/Manassas, VA) got in on the scoring as he ran it into the try zone twice in the half.  Philip O'Herron(Sophomore/Waynesboro, GA) ended the game with his first try of the season in the seventy-ninth minute of the game. Mead converted two of three conversions, and Santschi took nailed one of two in the second half. The boys finished strong without letting Hampden-Sydney get a single try. With the big win the team improves to 2-0 on the season.

Rugby's next match is home Saturday, September 18, Vs. Christopher Newport University at 1:00pm. Come out and cheer on the team!
