Crusaders Overcome Marymount in Close Game

FRONT ROYAL, VA - On Thursday, Christendom welcomed D-III Marymount University to our campus for the first time. In the second-ever meeting between these two squads, the Crusaders again came away with a one-goal victory, winning 4-3 in a hard-fought match.

The Saints got on the board early, with Mynor Danilo Lopez scoring in the 9th minute against Junior keeper Carlos Pardo Gasque. A goal in the 14th minute by Luis Ochoa made the score 2-0, before Senior Pete Day, one of the most prolific scorers in Christendom soccer history, decided to get hot. Over the remainder of the first half, Day scored three unanswered goals in the 15th, 20th, and 34th minutes, before Marymount's Anthony Calderon tied the score at 3 in the 40th minute.

The second half proved to be a defensive battle, seesawing back and forth across the field. Marymount had several chances to take the lead in the second half, getting off 5 shots on goal, but Pardo Gasque once again proved to be up to the challenge, saving them all before leaving with a leg injury in the 86th minute. The difference-maker proved to be Pete Day once again, capping off his four-goal day with the game-winner in the 71st minute.

The Crusaders return to the field on Saturday, September 22nd, where they will face Southern State Community College at 1 PM.
