Staunton, VA- Crusader Men's Soccer traveled to Staunton, VA this past Monday, September 27, where they took on the JV squad of the NCAA DIII Mary Baldwin Fighting Squirrels.  The teams were very evenly matched, as the game ended tied three a side.

The Crusaders came out ready for action, with John Paul Tsakanikas(Freshman/Front Royal, VA) opening the scoring, as he was able to put home a pass from Nicholas Foeckler(Senior/Manassas, VA). Although the Crusaders had the early lead, the Fighting Squirrels weathered the storm, bringing a 1-0 score into half-time.

The second half brought life to Mary Baldwin, as the Fighting Squirrels came out strong. Twelve minutes into the half, Mary Baldwin found the back of the net, tying the game1-1. The Crusaders rebounded fast, and less than a minute later Michael Townsend(Freshman/Front Royal, VA) put the Crusaders back in front 2-1, with his first goal of the season. Mary Baldwin advanced with their second goal, tying the game yet again. Two minutes later, Mark LaRochelle(Senior/Napa, CA), the Crusaders leading goal scorer, put the Crusaders back on top, with his seventh goal of the season, making the score 3-2. Mary Baldwin was determined not to go down, and in the final three minutes of the game they found the net one last time, ending the game an even 3-3.

With the tie Crusader' Men Soccer advances to 1-3-1 on the season. The Crusaders are back in action with a home game this Saturday, October 2 at 3pm against the Potomac State Catamounts. Come out and support the team in their homecoming match!
