Men’s Soccer Wins Home Opener vs. Patrick Henry Sentinels

Front Royal, VA – Christendom Men's Soccer won their home opener 8-0 against the Patrick Henry Sentinels.

The Crusaders' offense began clicking early in the game, as Michael Townsend (Junior/Front Royal, VA) scored the first goal of the game just 7 minutes into the contest.  Soon after, Isaias Odiatu (Freshman/Winnipeg, Canada) scored back to back goals in the 8th minute, separated by only 45 seconds, giving the Crusaders a 3-0 lead early in the game.  For the rest of the first half, both the Sentinel and Crusader defenses held strong, and no more goals were scored.

The Crusaders came out with intensity in the second half, and in the 51st minute Ryan Welch (Sophomore/Atlanta, GA) placed a shot into the upper right corner of the net, assisted by a beautiful cross from Aidan Oakley (Senior/Irvine, CA). Then, one minute later, Welch played a through-ball to Sean Corcoran (Junior/Lawrence, NJ), who scored a powerful shot past the goalie, giving the Crusaders the 5-0 lead. Soon afterward, Townsend scored again on a penalty kick. Finally, John Hand (Sophomore/Newnan, GA), assisted by Corcoran, closed out the scoring for the Crusaders in the 81st minute.

Excellent play by the Crusader back line held the Sentinels to only 4 shots on goal throughout the game.  With this win, the Crusaders establish a 3-game win streak.
