Christendom’s student-athletes earned numerous awards from the United States College Athletic Association (USCAA) to close out the fall 2023 semester, with six student-athletes earning All-American honors and twenty-nine student-athletes earning All-Academic honors.
On October 31st, Christendom College Men’s Soccer Team fell 4-2 in a tough match against the Regent University Royals. The Crusaders had an impressive first half, dominating the field. Within the first ten minutes of the game, Michael Townsend (Junior/ Front Royal, VA)
Christendom College Men’s Soccer Team went undefeated in the Mont Alto Labor Day Classic, securing their first victories of the season. On Friday, September 1st, the Crusaders were triumphant over Penn State York 2-1. The following day, Saturday, September 2nd, the Crusaders beat Penn State Mont Alto 4-3 in an impressive comeback.
Christendom College’s Athletics Department announced on Friday, July 7, the college’s fall sports schedule, which begins August 26 for men’s and women’s soccer and for women’s volleyball. This year’s schedules will feature numerous premier matchups, as the college’s six fall varsity teams aim to exceed last year’s great successes.
Christendom College will welcome back alumni and friends of Christendom for the thirteenth annual Thomas S. Vander Woude Memorial Golf Tournament on Monday, October 10. The event, held this year at the Shenandoah Valley Golf Club in Front Royal, Virginia, raises funds for the Thomas S. Vander Woude Memorial Scholarship, which supports student-athletes at Christendom each year.
Six Christendom student-athletes were named to the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) Academic All-State team for the 2021-22 academic year. Recognized for their efforts on the field and in the classroom, the student-athletes together had a GPA average of 3.65 for the academic year, representing the best of the college’s athletic program.
Christendom College's Athletics Department announced on Wednesday, July 6 the college's fall sports schedule, which begins on Saturday, August 27 with a men’s and women's soccer double header vs Frederick Community College.
The USCAA honored its student-athletes this past week, with awards for stellar performances, on the field, court, and in the classroom. Christendom was well represented, with Crusader athletes receiving multiple awards in both categories. Six Crusaders were given the honor of being chosen to the All-American Team; an award given to those who show excellence in their respective sport. For performance in the classroom, an impressive 18 Crusaders were awarded to the All-Academic Team. The All-Academic Team is awarded to student-athletes who have completed a minimum of 24 credit hours, played a fall varsity sport, while also achieving a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above.
Front Royal, VA- This past Tuesday, October 26, Crusader Men’s Soccer took on Patrick Henry in their final game of the season. The Crusaders brought home the 7-1 win in the contest. Tuesday was also senior night for seven of our Crusaders. Shoutout to Nicholas Foeckler, Santiago Pardo Gasque, Daniel Duca, Pablo Boada, Aganze Nkere, Mark LaRochelle, and Brian Hicks for a great Crusader career!
Staunton, VA- Crusader Men’s Soccer traveled to Staunton, VA this past Monday, September 27, where they took on the JV squad of the NCAA DIII Mary Baldwin Fighting Squirrels. The teams were very evenly matched, as the game ended tied three a side.
Keyser, WV- The Crusader Men’s Soccer took on Potomac State Catamounts Thursday, September 23. Although it was a close battle, the Crusaders fell to the Catamounts 2-1.
Steubenville, Ohio - This Past Saturday, the Christendom Men?s Soccer team traveled to Steubenville, Ohio to take on NCAA opponent Franciscan University. The Barons of Franciscan Ultimately defeated the Crusaders by a score of 6-2.
Men’s rugby and men’s & women’s soccer finally returned to their home fields this past weekend, playing in their home openers in front of the passionate Christendom fanbase. Men’s rugby stunned Virginia Military Institute with a 74-7 win on Saturday, while women’s soccer defeated Patrick Henry College 8-0 and men’s soccer lost narrowly to Berkeley 3-2.
Purcellville, VA- The Christendom Men’s Soccer team played Patrick Henry on Wednesday, September 15. The Crusaders brought home their first win of the season defeating Patrick Henry, 3-0. Mark LaRochelle(Senior, Napa, CA) led the way for the squad, scoring the matches only three goals of the game.
The Crusaders Men’s Soccer team played its opening game of the season against the Berkley New Jersey Knights, last Friday, September 10. The Crusaders fought hard in their first game but came up just short, losing the game 3-2.
Christendom College’s Athletics Department announced on Thursday, August 19 the college’s fall sports schedule, which begins on Saturday, August 28 with women’s soccer taking on Hagerstown.
Student-athletes across the nation were presented with their most unusual fall seasons ever last year in the wake of COVID-19, with many schools deciding to not hold seasons whatsoever. At Christendom, the athletics department worked hard to offer sports teams an extended pre-season, where they worked out throughout the week and took part in select scrimmages as well. Sports provided a healthy outlet for them that helped build discipline both on the field and in the classroom, with twenty-six student-athletes ultimately qualifying for the USCAA’s Academic All-American awards.
