Catherine Thomas propels Christendom to Season-Opening Victory

Front Royal, VA- The Christendom Women's Basketball team took on Hagerstown Community College in their first game of the season, where they picked up the win by a score of 70-36.

Crusader Gymnasium was packed right from the tip, eager to get a first look at the Lady Crusaders and the squad they assembled for this upcoming season. The Lady Crusaders did not disappoint. Christendom gained the lead early in the first half and never looked back. Hagerstown would only have the lead one time in this game, when the score was 3-2. After the Hawks lost that lead, they would not regain it for the remainder of the game. The Crusaders found their groove early, particularly Catherine Thomas (Freshman/ Portland,TX), who scored 12 of the first 14 Lady Crusader points. The Crusaders would carry their offensive groove into a 28-17 lead at the half.

The second half went even better for the Lady Crusaders than the first. It was a display of great basketball on both ends of the floor, as Christendom would outscore Hagerstown by a score of 42-19 in the second half. One of the main things that caused this difference was the fact that the Crusaders accrued 25 offensive rebounds throughout the game, as well as 9 steals and 13 blocked shots.

Thomas led the way for the Lady Crusaders with a triple-double, with an astounding 28 points, 21 rebounds, and 10 blocks. Miranda Keller (Freshman/ Harrisburg, PA) was just one rebound shy of a double-double with 16 points and 9 rebounds. Kate Walz (Junior/ Baltimore, MD) chipped in with a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
