Lady Crusaders Drop Nail Biter to Mustangs

Front Royal VA- The Crusader Women's Basketball team had their first home game of the semester, where they took on MACU Mustangs on Monday, January 31. The Crusaders put up a good fight, leading for the majority of the game. However, MACU handed the girls the loss, as they captured the lead in the final thirty second of the game to win 54-50.

In the opening minutes of the game, the Crusaders came out hot. Catherine Thomas (Freshman/Portland, TX) opened the game with the first 6 points followed by a Agnes Wingate (Sophomore/Huntly, VA) layup. The game was close with about a 2–3-point difference throughout the half, but the girls prevailed and managed to keep the lead over MACU. The half ended with the score 18-20, in favor of Christendom. Thomas impressively led the half with a total of 13 points.

MACU came back from half time with immediate pressure scoring seven quick points to take the lead over the Crusaders. The Crusaders weathered the storm and were able to build an 8-point lead over MACU in the last ten minutes of the game. The Crusaders led for the next 9 and a half minutes. In the last thirty seconds of the game, the Mustangs drilled a three-point jumper to go up 2 and seconds later they hit another jump shot, making the final score 54-50. This was a nail-biting game and both teams fought till the end.

Game leaders for the Crusaders were: Thomas, who ended with an impressive 25 points, and 15 rebounds, Thomas was followed by Miranda Keller (Freshman/Harrisburg, PA), who quietly registered another double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
