Crusaders Take Down Cougars, 67-64

Front Royal, VA - On Thursday February 16, Crusaders Women's Basketball team played an intense game against the Frederick Community College Cougars. The Crusaders seized the win, by just a 3-point margin, 67-64.

The first half was tight, as both teams battled back and forth for the lead. After six different lead changes, the Cougars took a slim 32-31 advantage into the half. The Cougars came out of halftime ready for action, and in just four minutes they had extended their lead to 41-35. However, the Crusaders bounced back quickly, the team scored eight unanswered points to take the lead 43-41. The score remained close for the rest of the half, with neither team able to pull away. In the final minute of the game the Crusaders were trailing 61-60. As time quickly ticked by, Kate Walz (Junior/ Baltimore, MD) made a crucial 3-point jump shot followed by a Catherine Thomas (Freshman/ Portland, TX) layup, giving the Crusaders 2-point lead with 30 seconds to go. The Cougars started to foul in an attempt to regain possession. However, the Crusaders buried their free-throws to take the game 67-64.

Miranda Keller (Freshman/ Harrisburg, PA) and Catherine Thomas led the way for the Crusaders. Keller picked up a double-double, with 28 points and 14 rebounds and Thomas ended the game with 23 points and 8 rebounds.
