Incredible Quadruple-Double Leads the Lady Crusaders to Victory over Centurions

Front Royal, VA – The Lady Crusader basketball team took on the Bucks County Community College Centurions at home on November 18, and, lead by an incredible quadruple-double by Mary Pennefather (Freshman/Manassas, VA), were victorious 84-18.

Both the Centurions and the Crusaders came out strong at the beginning of the first quarter. Although the Centurions scored the first points of the period, the Crusaders quickly responded with a three-pointer by Mary Pennefather.  The Crusaders then locked down on defense, causing multiple shot-clock violations and only allowing the Centurions to score 5 points in the quarter.  The Crusaders' offense was clicking early, with Pennefather hitting 2 more 3-pointers, and Bridget McCaughey (Junior/Nashville, TN) scoring multiple jumpers and transition layups to put the Crusaders up 23-5.

The Crusaders continued to dominate throughout the second quarter, with McCaughey and Pennefather continuing to score, as well as Lili Speier (Senior/Phoenix, AZ), who hit a floater and multiple jump shots in the quarter.  The Crusaders limited the Centurions to 11 points in the period, and so were up 41-16 at halftime.

Throughout the second half, the Crusaders played superb defense, only allowing the Centurions to score 2 points total.  The girls continued to play well offensively, putting up 43 points in the second half, and the game ended 84-18.

Pennefather had an outstanding game, both offensively and defensively, finishing with a quadruple double: 43 points, 23 rebounds, 12 assists, and 11 steals.  Bridget McCaughey finished with 19 points, and Lili Speier had a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds.

Up next – The Crusaders travel to York, Pennsylvania, to take on the Penn State York Nittany Lions in a USCAA DII matchup on November 21 at 6:00pm.
