Crusaders Fall to Shock in Hard Fought Game

Front Royal, VA – Christendom Women's Basketball fell to the Washington Adventist Shock at home on Tuesday, February 6 by a score of 74-55.

Mary Pennefather (Freshman/Manassas, VA) opened the scoring for the Lady Crusaders in the first quarter. She scored 9 of Christendom's first 14 points making layups, midrange shots and deep threes. The Shock, despite coming up short on several early scoring opportunities, were able to keep the game tied 14-14 at the end of 10 minutes. Catherine Thomas (Junior/Corpus Christi, TX) gave Christendom life in the second quarter. In addition to her offensive production, she made key defensive takeaways, giving the Crusaders more scoring chances. However, the Shock pressured Christendom's offense, making it very difficult for the lady Crusaders to capitalize on their chances. The Shock lead Christendom 35-29 at half.

This trend continued into and throughout the second half. Most of the shots Crusaders took in the half were low percentage threes. Due to the low-quality shots being taken, the Crusaders were not able to generate offensive momentum during the second half. Although the team lost the third quarter 23-9, they were able bounce back in the fourth and play competitive basketball, falling in that frame 16-12. The Shock held a firm lead during the second half, as the Crusaders fell 74-50.
