Front Royal, VA-The Crusaders bested Patrick Henry in their first home match on Wednesday, August 30th, defeating the Sentinels 1-0.
The Crusaders dominated the first half, keeping possession and finding open looks on goal early in the game. In the 15th minute, Megan Lovar (Sophomore/Odenton, MD) found the back of the net. She placed a beautiful shot into the lower left corner of the goal, assisted by Catherine Thomas (Junior/Corpus Christi, TX), making the score 1-0. After the goal the team continued to maintain control of the pace of play, but Patrick Henry's defense held strong keeping the score 1-0 for the rest of the half.
Throughout the second half, the Crusaders continued to create scoring chances, but were unable to capitalize. Both teams showed impressive defensive effort and poise as the game remained 1-0 to the finish. The Crusader back line played an excellent game, holding the Sentinels to only three shots throughout the entire contest.
