Crusaders Bring Home Fourth Win vs Lions

Mont Alto, PA – Christendom Women's Soccer Team shutout the Penn State Mont Alto Nittany Lions 3-0 on September 9th to bring in their fourth win of the season.

Both the Crusaders and the Lions came out in the first half ready to take on a familiar rival. Before long, Christendom took control of the game. Within the first ten minutes, Crusaders' Catherine Thomas (Junior/ Corpus Christi, TX) put in the first goal of the game. Christendom continued to control the field, creating many offensive opportunities. In the final fifteen minutes, the Crusaders extended their lead over the Lions. On a crisp cross from Collette O'Reilly (Freshman/ Front Royal, VA), Theresa Luckey (Freshman/ Front Royal, VA) took a beautiful shot that found the back of the net. The Crusaders continued to push, and just before the close of the half, captain Gracie Russo (Senior/ Manassas, VA) placed the ball directly below the crossbar, giving the Crusaders a 3-0 lead.

Penn State Mont Alto responded in the second half with new aggression. Despite this new energy from the Lions, the Crusaders held on to their three-goal lead. Although the Crusaders did not add to their lead, they were able to shut out the lions for the remainder of the game. Even though the Lions brought competitive play to the field, Christendom handled the pressure during both halves of the match. The final score was 3-0 the Crusaders over the Lions.

Thanks to a very impressive game from keepers Anna Hsu (Sophomore/ Front Royal, VA) and Georgia Francis (Junior/ Front Royal, VA) as well as defensemen Elisa Duca (Freshman/ Warrenton, VA) and Christy Rodriguez (Senior/ Mission Viejo, CA), the Crusaders kept a blank sheet to secure their fourth victory of the season.
