Lady Crusaders Sweep CCBC-Essex Tournament

BALTIMORE, MD - The #3 Lady Crusaders traveled to Maryland for the CCBC Essex Tournament this past weekend along with six other teams. Several games this weekend were filled with suspense, but the Lady Crusaders dominated, and brought home the gold.

They kicked off Satuday's Round Robin matches against Harford Community College. The game went a full five sets, With the Lady Crusaders winning the first two but falling short the next two. In the final set, they won in a close match, with the final score 11 to 15. Later that day, the Lady Crusaders dominated Delaware Tech, winning in three sets.

On Sunday, the Lady Crusaders played in the Semifinal game against Delaware Tech, and yet again took the victory in just three sets. The Championship game against an undefeated Harcum was a suspenseful one. Harcum showed a lot of promise as the best team in the tournament after winning the first two sets, but the Crusaders didn't give up. It was a battle until the last ball in play was killed in the final set by Christendom. The final score amounted 9 to 15.

The Lady Crusaders were elated over their CCBC Tournament victory, taking home a hefty plaque, and sporting overjoyed smiles all round. As well as the team victory, the Lady Crusaders also brought home several individual rewards, as Junior Michaela Pennefather and Senior Gemma McMahon were both named to the All-Tournament Team. Pennefather finished the tournament with 50 kills, a .389 hitting percentage, and 11 blocks., while McMahon finished with 102 assists, 16 service aces, and 7 kills. What a proud day to be a Lady Crusader!

The red-hot Lady Crusaders will look to extend their 9-game winning streak on October 2nd, where they will travel to Washington Adventist for a match at 7:30 PM.
