Volleyball wins Season Opening Tri-Match

Mount Hope, WV- This past Saturday, the Christendom Volleyball team traveled up to Mount Hope, West Virginia to take on the Flames of Welch College and the Warriors of Appalachian Bible College. The Crusaders would win both matches, defeating Welch by a score of 3-2 and defeating Appalachian Bible 3-0. 

In the first match against Welch, the Crusaders had some tough luck, dropping the first two sets by narrow margins. The Lady Crusaders lost the first set by a score of 23-25, and the second by a score of 21-25. Faced with losing the match down 0-2, Christendom stormed back in the next set, winning 25-20. They carried this momentum into the fourth set, winning 25-21, tying the score at 2 sets a piece. In the 15 point tiebreak set, the Lady Crusaders continued their great play, completing the fantastic comeback, winning 15-9. The Crusaders were led offensively by Agnes Wingate(Sophomore/Huntly,VA) and Megan Dano(Senior/Allentown, PA), who had 25 and 13 kills, respectively. Claire Mense(Junior/Lakeland, FL) made some big contributions as well, with 28 assists with 8 serving aces. Annie Heisler(Senior/Front Royal, VA) led the team in digs with 18. 

The second match against Appalachian Bible went very smoothly for the Lady Crusaders on the way to a 3-0 win. Christendom won the first two sets by a score of 25-17, and the third by a score of 25-20. Wingate again led the Crusaders in kills with 10, with Dano and Madalyn Messier(Haymarket, VA) following with 5. Mense led the Lady Crusaders in assists with 23 and serving aces with 4. Fiona Briggs(Junior/Front Royal, VA) led Christendom in digs with 10. 

The Crusaders play next against Appalachian Bible College once again at Crusader Gymnasium on Saturday, September 25.
