Cross-Country Performs Well at Shenandoah University

Saturday morning, the Crusader Cross Country team competed in their third race of the season. Just forty-five minutes from campus, athletes raced at Kernstown Battlefield, hosted by Shenandoah University. The course was challenging, with rolling hills and trails running through the forest. All around, both the men's and women's teams raced better than ever, many runners setting new personal records times.

After their last meet two weeks ago, the team was able to do active rest days and heal from injuries that had arisen during the season. Overall, both the men and woman competed better than they have all season.

The Lady Crusaders as a team finished with a ranking of fourth out of eight teams with a total of 92 points. Senior Xochitl Ortega ran a 21:03 5k and placed 4th overall, followed by Seniors Cappy Lyon and Magdalena Cuddeback who both ran a total of 22:40.

The men ran faster than they have competed so far, even though this race totaled a 6k. The men's team placed 9th out of 11 teams. Christendom's top runner was Junior Anthony Brooks, who placed 34th with a time of 22:35. He was followed by Senior Luke Williams who ran a 23:29, as did Freshman Tommy Herlihy.

Christendom Crusaders continue to enjoy their first year of competing as a collegiate sports team. They will continue to train hard for their next upcoming meet on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at George Mason University.
