Four Christendom student-athletes were honored as All-Americans by National Collegiate Rugby for their performances in the fall of 2021, as announced by the organization this week. Named as top performers and the "best of the best," Christendom's student-athletes led the pack with four total All-American selections, the most of any school in their conference.
"Congratulations to these All-Americans," said NCR Commissioner Steve Hiatt in a press release. "Being an All-American is an honor to cherish as well as a standard to uphold. Your hard work, exceptional focus, and special performances were noticed and elevated you from thousands of your peers."
Rugby players Joseph Kokes, Hugh Wingate, Matthew Westin, and Owen Kennedy, who was also named the MVP of the NCR Cohen Cup National Championship in December, were all named All-Americans by NCR. Christendom led the pack with four total selections, the most of any school in their conference.
The NCR Men's All-American program recognizes student-athletes who have earned this distinct honor for being top performers during a season. Recognition as an NCR All-American is a special honor that is reserved for the "best of the best," according to the organization, making the achievement for Christendom that much more significant.
The awards mark another accomplishment for Christendom's rugby program, following their dominant performance last fall, which ended with them winning the National Collegiate Rugby Cohen Cup Championship in Houston, Texas — the second National Title for Christendom.
After their victorious fall 15s season, Christendom's rugby program is now in the midst of their spring 7s season, hoping to achieve another National Championship berth and compete in New Orleans this coming May.
