Six Student-Athletes Named to Virginia Academic All-State Team
Six Christendom College student-athletes have been named to the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) Academic All-State team for the 2024–25 academic year. Recognized for excellence both on the field and in the classroom, the six honorees together achieved an impressive GPA average, exemplifying the best of Christendom's commitment to student-athlete success.
To qualify for Virginia's Academic All-State team, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher. Christendom's six honorees not only met that standard but excelled while balancing rigorous academic workloads with demanding athletic schedules. Two honorees even competed in multiple sports, demonstrating remarkable dedication and discipline.
Catherine Thomas and Miranda Keller both competed in women's soccer and basketball during the 2024–25 academic year. On top of that accomplishment, they were both instrumental in Christendom's run in women's soccer to the USCAA National Championship Game, and winning the USCAA National Championship in basketball for the second year in a row.
Regina Bonvissuto also played a key role in the team's national title and earned Academic All-State recognition. On the men's side, Michael Townsend was honored for his performance on the soccer team, while Mary Noble earned recognition as a member of the college's cross-country team. Christopher Usher rounded out the honorees, representing Christendom's men's rugby program.
The six Crusaders joined top student-athletes from 36 other Virginia institutions in receiving this recognition, including those from Virginia Tech, the University of Virginia, and George Mason University.
In addition, National Collegiate Rugby (NCR) recently named its 2024–25 Academic All-Americans. Christendom's honorees included Usher, Thomas Humm, Chris Pascoe, Anthony Pegis, and Nicholas Ward — all recognized for excellence on the rugby pitch and in the classroom.
These honors follow Christendom's recent win of the USCAA President's Cup for the fourth time in June, awarded to the athletic department with the highest academic performance across the association. During the 2024–25 academic year, 40 Christendom student-athletes were named USCAA National Academic All-Americans, with the college's varsity teams posting a cumulative GPA of 3.51.
