MANOR COLLEGE MEN’S SOCCER SHUTS OUT NATIONALLY-RANKED AND ESAC FOE CHRISTENDOM COLLEGE ON  SENIOR DAY

JENKINTOWN, PA—United Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Division I Manor College (9-7-1 overall, 4-3-1 Eastern States Athletic Conference) freshman midfielder Jallah Murvee (Philadelphia, PA) scored two goals and the Blue Jay defense held the 13th-ranked USCAA Division II Christendom College (7-6-3, 2-4-0) to eight shots overall (including three on goal) as they shut out the Crusaders, 2-0, on Senior Day.  

Manor opened the scoring when freshman defenseman Zakhir Brewster's (Philadelphia, PA/Roman Catholic) pass outside the 18-yard line went to Murvee inside the 18.  Murvee's shot went into the left-hand corner of the net for his second goal of the season (17:17).  Brewster contributed his third assist of the season on Murvee's goal.  The Blue Jays outshot the Crusaders in the first half, 12 (nine on goal) to five (two on goal).

The Blue Jays finished off the scoring in the second half. Sophomore midfielder Adan Crispin-Morales' (Norristown, PA/Norristown) corner kick went to Murvee around the six.  Murvee's head shot went into the left side of the net for his second goal of the match and third of the season (57:10).  This was Murvee's first collegiate multi-goal.  Manor outshot Christendom in the second half, eight (five on goal) to three (one on goal).  The Blue Jays outshot the Crusaders for the match, 20 (14 on goal) to eight (three on goal).

Manor registered its first shutout of the season at home and fourth overall.  The Blue Jays previous home shutout was on October 21, 2023 versus the Crusaders (1-0).

Senior Day for Two Blue Jays: Today was Senior Day for two Blue Jay student-athletes: midfielder Abubakarr Bangura (Philadelphia, PA/John Bartram) and defenseman and co-captain Maximo Chavez (King of Prussia, PA/Upper Merion).  Bangura played in 31 career matches (30 starts).  He scored five goals and contributed 12 assists for 22 points.  Bangura was voted to the 2023 All-ESAC Men's Soccer First Team.  Academically, he made Manor's Dean's List three times and was twice named to the ESAC Fall Semester All-Academic Team (2022 and 2023).  Chavez played in 54 career matches (50 starts), including 36 straight.  He scored 10 goals and contributed seven assists for 27 points.  He was voted to the 2023 All-ESAC Men's Soccer Second Team.  Chavez received the 2023 Manor College Men's Soccer Coaches Award and twice received the Manor College Brian Barry Award for Men's Soccer (2021 and 2022). 

Manor versus the Association (Since 2021): Manor is 7-4-1 overall (3-2-0 at home) this season versus the USCAA.  They are 25-16-2 overall (12-8-1 at home) since the 2021 season.

Blue Jays versus the ESAC (Since 2021): The Blue Jays are 15-10-2 overall (7-5-1 at home) versus the ESAC since 2021.

Manor at Home (Since 2021): Manor finished the regular season 4-4-0 at home this season.  They are 18-10-2 since their 2021 USCAA debut season.  They surpassed last season's total of three.  This is the seventh straight season that Manor finished the regular season with a 0.500 or better home won-loss record, dating back to when they were National Junior College Athletic Association Region XIX Division I members.  Since 2017, they are 31-17-2 at home.

Series Record (Since 2021): The Blue Jays lead the season series, 3-0-0 overall (2-0-0 at home).

Manor as a Nationally-Ranked Team (Since 2021): Manor is 7-6-1 overall (4-3-1 at home) as a nationally-ranked team this season.  They are 10-9-1 overall (4-3-0 at home) since the 2021.

Blue Jays versus Nationally-Ranked Teams (Since 2021): They are 4-3-1 overall (2-1-0 at home) versus nationally-ranked teams this season. They are 5-5-1 overall (2-1-0 at home) since 2021.

If at First… (Since 2021): Manor is 7-0-0 overall (4-0-0 at home) when they score first this season.  They are 22-1-2 overall in the regular season (12-0-2 at home) since 2021 when they score first.

Strong Starts: The Blue Jays have scored 21 of their 32 home goals in the first half this season.

Manor Leading at Halftime (Since 2021): The Blue Jays are 8-0-0 overall (4-0-0 at home) this season when leading at halftime.  They are 21-0-0 overall in the regular season (13-0-0 at home) since 2021.

Defense Rests (Again) (Since 2021): Manor registered its fourth overall shutout of the season (one at home).  They have posted 11 shutouts overall (five at home) since 2021.

Defense Rests (Again and Again) (Since 2021): Manor has allowed one or fewer goals in a match 10 times overall (four at home) this season. They have allowed one or fewer goals in a match 29 times overall (16 at home) since 2021.

Defense Rests (Again and Again and Again): The Blue Jays defense allowed eight shots overall (three on goal) versus the Crusaders.  Manor's defense has allowed single-digit shots overall in a match six times overall (two at home) this season.  They have allowed single-digit shots on goal 11 times overall (four at home) this season.

Manor Multi-Goal Matches (Date): Murvee (October 26), Chavez (October 19), Kounda Doucoure (Philadelphia, PA/Benjamin Franklin) (September 25), Emylens Bellevue (September 12), Doucoure (September 12), Briyans Jeoboham (Orlando, FL) (September 12), Crispin-Morales (September 12), and Moussa Cherif (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge) (August 27).

Offensively Improved: Manor has improved offensively from the 2023 season in the following statistical categories: goals scored (51 to 27), assists (41 to 23), points (143 to 77), and corner kicks (94 to 91).  The Blue Jays also improved in goals per match (3.00 to 1.69).  They matched last season's shots on goal (205).  

Defensively Improved: The Blue Jays have improved defensively from the 2023 season in the following statistical categories: goals allowed (23 to 29), goals against average (1.35 to 1.81), save percentage (0.808 to 0.804), and shutouts (four to three).

Next Match: Manor travels to play the second-ranked USCAA Division II Central Pennsylvania College Knights in the ESAC Championship on Friday, November 1 at 6 p.m. at the Skyline Sports Complex on City Island in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.  The Knights swept the regular season series by 3-1 scores on October 7 (at Central Pennsylvania) and October 12 (at Manor).  The Manor is 3-4-0 overall (2-2-0 on the road) versus Central Pennsylvania.  This is the Blue Jays' third straight ESAC Championship appearance and the first Men's Soccer team in the conference to accomplish this feat.  Manor is 1-1-0 overall (both matches on the road) in the ESAC Championship.  The Blue Jays defeated the Knights in the ESAC Championship, 4-3, on October 28, 2023 at the Skyline Sports Complex.

Manor has won 11 postseason conference championships (2023 ESAC, 2007 Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference, 2005 EPCC, 2004 EPCC, 2001 EPCC, 2000 EPCC, 1999 EPCC, 1998 EPCC, 1997 EPCC, 1996 EPCC, 1995 EPCC).   The Blue Jays have won seven PCAA (Pennsylvania Collegiate Athletic Association) postseason tournament championships (2007, 2005, 2001, 2000, 1999, 1998, 1997, and 1993).  Manor has won two regular season conference titles in 2012 and 2013 (Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference) when they were National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XIX Division III members.  The Blue Jays have also won 13 straight EPCC Southern League regular season titles (1995-2007).
