In a back and forth contest between two evenly matched teams in Williamson College of the Trades and Christendom College. it only seemed fitting that the game would come down to the final seconds. It did exactly that as Williamson's Robert Wiley made one of two free throws after being fouled in the act of shooting with 2.0 seconds to give Williamson a hard-fought 52-51 win over visiting Christendom College on Friday afternoon.
After a slow start to start the game, Williamson managed to move to a 20-9 lead with 8 minutes left in the half. From that point on, it was all Christendom, as they outscored the hosts 21-10 the rest of the way to hold a 30-28 lead at the break.
The teams would trade baskets for several minutes before Williamson was actually able to gain a five-point advantage with 10 minutes left. The crusaders though kept witling away and actually regained the lead at the 6:47 mark. Williamson though kept close and took things down to the end. They were able to gain possession with 26 seconds left and the score tied at 51 apiece, and allowed the clock to run down before Wiley was fouled on his attempt at a game-winning shot with two second left. After missing the first attempt, he calming sank the second one to give Williamson the one-point advantage.
Christendom was able to inbound the ball up the sideline and called timeout with 1.5 seconds left, however their next attempt at an inbounds pass resulted in a five-second violation and Williamson was then able to run out the clock for the win.
Wiley led Williamson on the day with 20 points, while Ronald Johnson added 14 before fouling out. Wiley also added six rebounds and two steals. A'Jaad White once again had a big game for Williamson on the boards, as he hauled down 16 rebounds on the day.
With the win, Williamson moves to 12-8 overall and 2-3 in conference play. The next travel to Salem County College on Thursday for a contest against the Oaks.
