Keydets move to 3-0 in win over Christendom

Three wins to open the season is VMI's best start since 2010-11 season

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI basketball team improved to 3-0 on the young season with a dominant 102-56 win over Christendom College Tuesday night at Cameron Hall.
 
The 3-0 mark is VMI's best since the 2010-11 campaign when the Keydets opened the year with a 5-0 mark. VMI now owns a perfect 3-0 record over the Crusaders and the Keydets have won two straight at Cameron Hall for the first time in two years.
 

 
Game Summary
*VMI came out firing and hit four threes in the opening four minutes to go into the first media timeout ahead 21-6 with over 15 minutes to play before the half
*The Keydets cruised to a 51-25 halftime lead to keep a strong pace and keep the Crusaders at bay
 
Key Stats
*VMI TJ Johnson led the Keydets with a career-high 23 points on the night by hitting five threes and going 9-15 overall from the field. He finished just one rebound shy of a double-double
*Redshirt freshman Walker Andrews also logged a career high with 20 points with four treys an hitting 8-15 from the field
*Tan Yildizoglu earned a new career high with 14 points by hitting four threes to go with four assists and two steals
*Sophomore Maurice Wright, Jr. tied his career high with 13 points during the contest
*Freshman Cal Liston tied for the team lead with nine boards and also registered a season-high six points
*Edmund Thomas led Christendom with 18 points on the night while John Fowler finished with 13. Daniel Schultz also finished in double figures with 10. Thomas nearly finished with a double-double by grabbing eight rebounds
*The Keydets logged 28 points off turnovers and had 14 second-chance points
 

 
Up Next
The Keydets head to White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, this weekend to participate in the inaugural Greenbrier Tip-Off. VMI faces Tennessee Tech Friday at 3:30 p.m., and depending on the result will face Charleston Southern or UTRGV in either the 3rd-4th
 Place Game or Championship Game as part of the River Division tournament.
