Crusaders Sweep Williamson with 3-2 Win

In the second game of a doubleheader against Williamson Trade, the Crusaders battled to a close 3-2 victory. The Crusaders got on the scoreboard early with runs in the first and second innings, followed by a run later in the fifth inning. Freshman Stephen Buonocore started on the mound for the Crusaders and threw four scoreless innings. Caleb Wilson came in to relieve Buonocore in the fifth inning and pitched into the seventh. A highlight catch to deep left by Junior Pete Day in the sixth inning held Williamson without a run until the seventh inning. Williamson threatened in the seventh and scored two runs off of Wilson before the Crusaders brought in Michael Mersch in one last pitching change. On the last play of the game with a Williamson runner on third, Mersch threw a wild pitch. In a close play at the plate, Mersch rushed to cover home, received the throw from the catcher, Josh Wilson, and tagged the runner out to end the game.

The Crusaders totaled three runs, two of which were scored by Kolbe Heisler. Pete Day also had two hits and an RBI. With a sweep of the doubleheader, Christendom started its season 2-0, and travels to St. Andrew's University for a doubleheader on Tuesday, March 6.
