Crusaders Drop First Game to USC Union

In the first game of a doubleheader against the University of South Carolina at Union, the Crusaders lost 8-5 to the Bantams. Freshman Kolbe Heisler started his first game of the season on the mound for the Crusaders. After allowing two runs in the first inning, Heisler shut down the Bantams in the next two innings. The Crusaders offense scored three runs in the fourth inning to take a 4-2 lead. Heisler gave up a run in the bottom of the fourth to hold onto the lead, but the Bantams scored three runs off of Heisler in the fifth, and two runs in the sixth off of Ben Dunphy to win 8-5.

Offensively the Crusaders struggled to string together enough hits to score runs. Dunphy was the offensive hero for the Crusaders and had two hits, scored a run and knocked in a run. Pete Day
had a hit and two RBIs, while Josh Wilson had two walks and scored two runs in a tough offensive game for the Crusaders.
