Christendom Defeated By Stratford in Two Close Games

Game 1

The Crusaders traveled to Newport News, VA to take on Stratford University in a double header. In the first game the Crusaders got off to a bad start going down 5-0 after two innings after allowing some batters to reach base and timely big hits by Stratford. The offense struggled the first couple innings, but then strung together a few hits to score four runs in the top of the third. The men in blue could not get any breaks, and could not score any more runs and dropped the game 6-4.

Stephen Buonocore, Ian Heisler, Michael Mersch, Josh Wilson, Caleb Wilson, and Pete Day all had hits for the Crusaders. Day had a spectacular diving grab in right field to rob the hitter and turn a double play to keep the game within reach. Caleb Wilson pitched a complete game and gave up 6 earned runs.

Game 2

In the second game the Crusader's offensive woes continued as they could only string together two hits courtesy of Jon Messing and Ian Heisler. The game was scoreless through five innings until Stratford put two runs on the board in the bottom of the 5th. The Crusaders could not support an impressive pitching performance from Ian Heisler who gave up only 3 hits, 3 walks, and two runs as they failed to score any runs and lost a hard-fought pitching duel 2-0.

The Crusaders look to bounce back after Easter when they face Stratford University again at home on April 6 and April 7.
