Petersburg, VA — Despite a strong offensive showing, the Christendom Crusaders came up short on the road Tuesday, falling 18–9 to the Virginia State Trojans. The loss drops the Crusaders to 9–13 on the season.
Christendom found early life at the plate, putting up nine runs on eight hits, but a series of big innings from the Trojans proved too much to overcome.
Rowland Thornberry and George Storey led the offensive charge for the Crusaders, each going 2-for-4 at the plate. Storey drove in two runs, while Thornberry added one RBI and crossed the plate twice himself in a well-rounded effort.
Joe Romero made his presence felt early, lacing a run-scoring double in the top of the first to give Christendom a quick jolt of momentum. Edmund Thomas added a double of his own in the fifth and went 1-for-2 on the day, scoring twice.
While the Crusaders were productive at the plate, they couldn't keep pace with the Trojans' relentless offense, which took advantage of timely hitting and Christendom's struggles on the mound.
Christendom will look to regroup and tighten things up defensively as they continue their road stretch. The team remains hungry for a bounce-back performance as they near the final stretch of the season.
