Crusaders Defeat Royals 82-74

Front Royal, VA - The Christendom Men's Basketball defeated NCCAA opponent, the Regent University Royals, in a thrilling game on Tuesday, February 18, securing the victory 82-74.
The first half kicked off with a basket by the Royals and a quick response from Bobby Vander Woude (Junior/ Nokesville, VA). The Royals held the lead, but the Crusaders looked for their opportunity to take it over. Over five minutes into the game, John Fowler (Sophomore/ Tempe, AZ) nailed his first of many three-pointers, which was followed by another layup by B. Vander Woude to put the Crusaders on top 13-12. The lead continued to change hands, but Regent stayed on top for most of the half. Michael Vander Woude (Freshman/ Nokesville, VA) narrowed the gap with back-to-back three pointers. With two minutes left, Fowler sank his third three-pointer of the night, and in the final seconds B. Vander Woude rebounded the Royals' shot, taking it down the court to make the game 33-36, Regent on top.
The beginning of the second half proved promising for the Crusaders as Daniel Shultz (Sophomore/ Fredericksburg, TX) blocked a shot from the Royals leading to a bucket by M. Vander Woude. Although the Crusaders trailed initially, they were determined to catch up. Christendom was able to tie the match with eighteen minutes left with yet another three-point bucket by Fowler. After a long stretch filled with lead changes and a tight game, Fowler's shooting propelled the Crusaders to gain the lead and, took control of the game. The final minutes of the match were dominated by Christendom, great free throw shooting allowed the Crusaders to seal the victory 82-74.
Fowler had an outstanding performance in the match, ending with a total of 37 points and sinking 9 three-point buckets. Overall, the Crusaders made an impressive 62.5% of their free throws, giving them aid in the victory.
Next Up: The Crusaders will host Johnson & Wales from North Carolina this Saturday, February 22, at 3pm in a senior day game.
