Vander Woude Nets 1,000th as Crusaders Win Convincingly Over Knights
Front Royal, Va.- The Christendom men's basketball team earned a strong 81–66 home victory over Central Penn on Thursday night, powered by a balanced offensive effort and a milestone moment that set the tone from the opening tip. Less than a minute into the game, senior guard Bobby Vander Woude scored his 1,000th career point on a fast-break layup assisted by John Fowler, becoming the newest member of Christendom's 1,000 Point Club and joining his brother John Paul in the program's history books. The play energized the Crusaders, who quickly established control and carried a 36–24 lead into halftime behind stifling defense and dominance on the glass.
Christendom continued to roll in the second half, stretching the lead to as many as 21 points. Fowler paced the offense with poise, finishing with 15 points and 5 assists while knocking down two threes. Daniel Schultz delivered one of the strongest performances of the night, posting 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting and pulling down a game-high 14 rebounds to anchor the interior. Bobby Vander Woude complemented his milestone with 14 points and 3 rebounds, and Michael Vander Woude added 13 points, 7 boards, and 2 assists.
The Crusaders' depth also made a notable impact. Luke Vander Woude provided 7 points and 4 rebounds off the bench, and Luke Ross added 6 points while grabbing 6 rebounds to help Christendom finish with a decisive 48–29 advantage on the boards. Charlie Evich and Joey Curran both hit three pointers in the second half to boost the Crusader offense. The team's ball movement was a highlight throughout the game, as Christendom assisted on 17 of its 27 made field goals and knocked down 10 three-pointers.
Though Central Penn mounted a late push to trim the margin, Christendom maintained control and closed out the 81–66 win with confidence. The Crusaders' combination of defensive pressure, rebounding strength, and balanced scoring—along with Bobby Vander Woude's memorable milestone—made for a complete and convincing performance at home.
Up Next: With the win, the Crusaders improve their record to 2-6, and will be travelling to Pittsburgh next weekend to take on PSU Beaver and PSU Mont Alto at the PSU Beaver Holiday Tournament.
