Vander Woude Posts 20 Point Double-Double in Conference Victory
Front Royal, Va.- Christendom Men's Basketball returned to the court after a 16-day layoff due to weather cancellations and picked up right where it left off, earning a wire-to-wire 68–55 victory over ESAC conference opponent Williamson at home.
The Crusaders set the tone early, jumping out to a 12–4 lead and controlling the pace on both ends of the floor. Williamson was able to settle in, but Christendom consistently maintained an 8–10 point cushion throughout the first half behind balanced scoring and strong defensive rebounding. Bobby Vander Woude anchored the effort with his physical play inside, while Michael Vander Woude provided a spark from the perimeter. Christendom carried a 30–21 advantage into halftime.
Coming out of the break, the Crusaders wasted little time extending the margin, building their largest lead of the game at 15 points about five minutes into the second half. Williamson refused to go quietly, cutting the deficit to eight, but Christendom answered each push with timely baskets and stops. Bobby Vander Woude led all scorers with 20 points and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds to record a double-double, while also adding four steals. Michael Vander Woude finished with 15 points, knocking down five three-pointers, and Daniel Schultz contributed 13 points, three steals, and two blocks. John Fowler added 9 points, four rebounds, and three assists, while Charlie Evich and Edmund Thomas helped facilitate the offense and keep the Crusaders composed down the stretch.
Christendom closed out the game strong at the free-throw line and defensively to secure the 68–55 conference win.
Up Next: With the win, the Crusdaers improve to 7-10 on the season and 3-1 in ESAC Conference play. They prepare for a conference matchup on the road on Saturday against Manor in Philadelphia.
