Crusaders Outlast Knights on the Road
Enola, Pa.- Christendom Men's Basketball earned a hard-fought 77–72 road victory over conference opponent Central Penn on Saturday afternoon, outlasting the Knights in a game filled with momentum swings and clutch moments. The Crusaders led 44–39 at halftime and used late-game execution to secure the five-point win.
Christendom came out firing, building an early advantage and stretching its lead to a game-high 13 points at 38–25 with seven minutes remaining in the first half. The offensive surge was powered by electric perimeter shooting from Bobby Vander Woude and Luke Vander Woude, who combined for 35 first-half points and knocked down 10 three-pointers during the opening 20 minutes. Central Penn responded late in the half, trimming the deficit to five and sending the Crusaders into the break with a 44–39 lead.
The second half saw the Knights find their rhythm offensively, eventually taking a 52–49 lead with 12 minutes remaining. From there, the game turned into a back-and-forth battle featuring multiple lead changes over the next 10 minutes. Each possession carried weight as both teams traded timely baskets.
Bobby Vander Woude delivered the decisive blows down the stretch, finishing with a game-high 33 points on 9-of-20 shooting, including 6-of-11 from beyond the arc and 9-of-11 from the free-throw line. He added nine rebounds and three assists in a complete performance. Luke Vander Woude provided major support with 17 points, connecting on four three-pointers and grabbing seven rebounds. Off the bench, Luke Ross gave the Crusaders a lift with 13 points on 4-of-5 shooting and five rebounds.
Michael Vander Woude contributed across the stat sheet with seven points and a team-high seven assists, while Daniel Schultz controlled the glass with eight rebounds and added a block. John Fowler chipped in defensively with four steals as Christendom forced 12 team steals and stayed aggressive on the perimeter.
In the closing minutes, two timely buckets from Bobby Vander Woude created separation, and the Crusaders converted key free throws to seal the 77–72 road conference win.
Up Next: The win brings the Crusaders to 4-2 in ESAC play and 8-11 overall. They will take on Bucks County next at home on Saturday, February 21.
