Crusader Rugby Picks Up First Win on the Road Over HSC

Farmville, VA – Christendom Crusaders Rugby Team travelled to Hampden Sydney College on Saturday, 9/29, winning 30-24 over the Tigers.

 

As the Crusaders and the Tigers faced off, the match was close, but the Crusaders opened up the scoring with a try from Luke Ethridge (Freshman/Phoenix, AZ) and the conversion kick scored by Chris Santschi (Senior/Manassas, VA) to give them a 7-0 lead. The Tigers responded with a try and a conversion kick to tie the game at 7-7. The Tigers scored two more tries and a conversion on the second one to put them up 19-7 before halftime.

 

In the second half, the Crusaders regained their lead, preventing the Tigers from scoring at all. Frank Woltering (Sophomore/Marshall, VA) scored one try and Jude Burkett (Senior/Emlenton, PA) scored two, with Santschi scoring a conversion kick on Woltering's try to put the Crusaders up 24-19. Santschi also scored two penalty kicks before the end of the game to increase the Crusaders' lead to 30-19, and a late try from Hampden -Sydney made it 30-24, which was the final score of the game.
