Crusaders Win Big on Senior Day

Front Royal, VA – The Christendom Crusader Rugby team dominated in a 72-7 home match against Hampden Sydney College on Saturday, November 11/2.
To begin the game, the Crusaders took an early 7-0 lead with a try by Fionn Bauer (Freshman/Innsbruck, Austria) and a conversion by Chris Santschi (Senior/Manassas, VA). Santschi scored a penalty kick to increase the lead to 10-0. Forging ahead, the Crusaders added 14 points to their score with back-to-back tries from Frank Woltering (Sophomore/Marshall, VA) and conversions from Santschi. As the half-continued Santschi scored another penalty kick and a conversion after a try by Ben O'Brien (Junior/Pepperell, MA). Bauer scored the final try of the half to make the halftime score 39-0.
The Crusader offense continued to dominated in the second half. Jude Burkett (Senior/Emlenton, PA) opened the scoring in the second half with a try, which was followed by another try by Daniel Shea (Junior/Salem, NY) and a conversion by Santschi to bring the Crusader lead to 51-0. Hampden Sydney scored their only try in the 68th minute and earned the conversion to bring the score to 51-7. With three additional tries by Shea, O'Brien, and Mark Patryn (Freshman/Longmeadows, MA), and three conversions by Santschi, the Crusaders finished the game with an impressive 72-7 score.
