Christendom Rugby Punches Ticket for Collegiate Rugby Championship
Christendom's men's rugby team is gearing up for another national championship run. The team earned an invite to the Collegiate Rugby Championship tournament this coming April 25-27, marking their eighth-straight selection for the national championship tournament and another shot to bring home more hardware for the Christendom trophy case.
This is Christendom's latest trip to the Collegiate Rugby Championship, after finishing in fourth place in last year's championship run. This year has been a rebuilding year for the Christendom Crusaders, seeing many new players join the team. They battled through a competitive spring schedule, placing 2nd, 3rd, 3rd, and 4th in four separate qualifying tournaments. Their grit and determination both on and off the pitch earned them a shot at another national title — a task they are eager to get underway this weekend.
The team will travel to Boyds, Maryland, for the competition, opening their first round of tournament play against Denver at 10:40 am on Friday. If successful, they'll advance to the quarterfinals later Friday afternoon, and will compete on Saturday if they win that.
The Collegiate Rugby Championship is the largest college rugby tournament in the world, with 144 teams competing in 300 matches across 8 different divisions. This year marks the 15th Collegiate Rugby Championship, with Christendom — by far the smallest school in National Collegiate Rugby — competing in more than half of those championship tournaments, a testament to the strength and consistency of Christendom's rugby program.
