Second Game Against Gallaudet Results in a Win for the Crusaders

Despite a 2-2 tie with Gallaudet University earlier in the season, the Christendom College Crusaders were prepared to win in the second meeting this season on Wednesday, October 7th.  The first half was very fast paced because both teams had determination to win this game. In the 20th minute Junior Stephen Foeckler took a shot from outside of the box, but due to an acrobatic save by the goalie, the ball was pushed out of bounds. The Crusaders had 5 first-half corner kicks, all of which came close to goals.  In the 40th minute, Freshman Peter Day received a one-touch pass from Senior Patrick Audino, and after taking a touch towards the goal, he shot the ball into the back of the net. The halftime score was 1-0.

Heading into the second half knowing that to win this game they would need at least two goals, Gallaudet made a few alterations. Due to outstanding defense by Jeremy Minick, Nick Santschi, and Patrick Pennefather, Gallaudet realized the necessity to put additional pressure on the Crusader's defense in order to score.  Christendom found their second goal midway through the second half when Sean Salmon collected a through ball pass from Pat Mcneely. Salmon turned, and after causing a Gallaudet defender to miss the ball, he curved the ball around the goalie and into the side net to take a 2-0 lead. After a Christendom player was fouled on their offensive 30-yard line, Stephen Foeckler stepped up to take the free kick. He had the initial intent of putting the ball across the face of the goal so one of his teammates could shoot it, but his shot curved away from the keeper and dipped into the top corner of the net. The Crusaders won 3-0.

The Next Crusader game is the Homecoming match on Saturday, October 10th against Patrick Henry College.
