Crusaders Pick Up Conference Win In Home Opener

Front Royal, VA- The Christendom Crusaders triumphed over Williamson College with a decisive 5-1 victory on Saturday, September 7th. The match, held at Christendom's home ground, saw the Crusaders put on an attacking clinic led by Michael Townsend (Senior/Front Royal, VA) who scored a hat trick in the Crusaders' home opener.

Townsend opened the scoring in the 13th minute, which was followed by a goal by Isaias Odiatu (Sophomore/Winnipeg, Canada) in the 29th minute. The remainder of the half was scoreless. 

Williamson came out firing in the second half, controlling the tempo and pace of the game, ultimately resulting in a goal scored via PK in the 57th minute. 

The Crusaders came roaring back after the lone goal from Williamson, dominating the last 20 minutes of the game. Townsend scored again in the 75th minute off of a corner kick from John Paul Tsakinikas (Senior/Front Royal, VA). Then in the 82nd minute, Townsend concluded the hat trick off of a PK. Less than a minute later, Niall Maguire closed the scoring out with an unassisted goal after a Williamson turnover in the back line. 

Tim Sheedy (Freshman/Warrenton, VA) closed the day with three assists, and Michael Vander Woude (Freshman/Nokesville, VA) came up with numerous big-time saves in goal.
