New Kensington, PA – The Christendom Crusaders Men’s Soccer Team travelled to Penn State New Kensington on Friday, September 13th, 2024 and earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the Nittany Lions.

New Kensington, PA – The Christendom Crusaders Men's Soccer Team travelled to Penn State New Kensington on Friday, September 13th, 2024 and earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the Nittany Lions.
Both teams came out strong and fought to control possession of the ball, but the Lions dominated offensively throughout the game. Goalkeeper Michael Vander Woude (Freshman/Manassas, VA) was peppered with shots throughout the game, but consistently kept them all out of the back of the net. The Crusaders struggled to create scoring opportunities until the 25th minute of the first half when John Paul Tsakanikas (Senior/Front Royal, VA) finished off a free kick from Sean Corcoran (Senior/Lawrence, NJ). The half ended with the Crusaders leading 1-0.
In the second half, the Lions created numerous scoring opportunities, bring their shot count to 28 for the game. Despite this, the Lions were unable to capitalize before the time ran out. Vander Woude remained solid in the goal, finishing the game with an impressive 16 saves as well as a shutout.
Monaca, PA – The Christendom Crusaders Men's Soccer Team travelled to Penn State Beavvers on Saturday, September 14th, 2024 and tied the Nittany Lions 2-2.
The Crusaders got off to a quick start, taking control of the game four minutes in when Francis Gulick (Sophomore/West Milton, OH) scored an early goal assisted by George Storey (Sophomore/Amissville, VA). Looking to increase their lead, the Crusaders continued to play with intensity while the Lions attempted to tie the game. The Lions could not hold them off for long, however, and Joshua Cruz (Senior/San Diego, CA) found the back of the net off an assist from Gulick in the 20th minute. The Lions persisted and were able to score in the 29th minute. The half ended with the Crusaders leading 2-1.
The Crusaders gave up a penalty kick within the first two minutes of the second half. Both teams battled aggressively to earn the lead. However, neither team was able to find the back of the net and the game ended in a 2-2 tie. Goalkeeper Lucas Boada (Freshman/Woodlands, TX) stepped up, making a remarkable 12 saves over the course of the game.
