Front Royal, VA – Christendom Crusaders Men's Soccer Team fell 4-1 in an intense match against the Central Penn College Knights on Saturday, 9/21.
The Knights jumped ahead to a early lead, scoring within the first two minutes of the game. The Crusaders fought back but struggled to create scoring opportunities. Unable to hold back the Knights aggressive offense, the Crusaders conceded three more goals in the first half and took only one shot themselves. The first half ended with the Knights leading 4-0.
In the second half, the Crusaders came out with renewed aggression on both ends of the field. They were able to create multiple scoring opportunities, taking 11 shots during the half. Eventually, Niall Maguire (Junior/Chantilly, VA) found the back of the net to decrease the deficit to 4-1 in the 59th minute. On the defensive end, the Crusaders locked down and goalkeeper Michael Vander Woude (Freshman/Manassas, VA) made five saves to preserve the second half shutout. Vander Woude led the game in saves with eight total saves over the course of both halves. The game ended in a tough 4-1 loss for the Crusaders.
