Front Royal, VA – The Christendom College Men's Soccer Team fell in a conference grudge match to the Manor College Blue Jays 2-1 this past Saturday, October 5th, but shut out the Patrick Henry College Sentinels 3-0 in an impressive game on Monday, October 7th.
On Saturday, the Crusaders took on the Blue Jays in a physical match, eventually falling 2-1. Both teams fought hard in the first half trying to find the back of the net. With just seconds remaining in the first half, Manor created chaos in front of the Crusader's goal eventually slipping the ball into the corner. Despite holding the Blue Jays for the majority of the half, the Crusaders were unable to close it with the lead. Christendom's mentality remained strong in the second half, and thanks to a call in the Blue Jay's box, Senior John Paul Tsakanikas (Senior/ Front Royal, VA) made a PK to tie the game at 1-1. Although the Crusaders pushed for another goal, another PK led to a goal for Manor College. Christendom was unable to beat the Blue Jay's goalie, and the match came to a close with the Blue Jays on top 2-1 over the Crusaders.
The Crusaders did not let the loss on Saturday affect their play the following Monday in a game against Patrick Henry College. The team did not wait to take control of the game and put in three goals in the first half. With just over 20 minutes played, Francis Gulick (Sophomore/ West Milton, OH) scored off an assist from Niall Maguire (Junior/ Chantilly, VA). Soon after another goal followed from Senior Sean Corcoran (Senior/ Lawrence, NJ) off a ball from Gulick. Again, before the close of the first half, with a pass from Corcoran another connected with Maguire found the back of the net giving the Crusaders a dominating 3-0 lead in the first 45 minutes. The Crusader's defense played extremely well and shut down the Sentinels attack throughout the match. The team was able to keep control of the middle of the field, leading to this victory and shut out over Patrick Henry College.
Next Up: The Christendom Men's Soccer Team will play at the Crusader Field against division rival Penn State Mont Alto on Wednesday, October 9th, at 4pm.
