Lady Crusaders Fall in Season Opener

The Lady Crusader's Softball team got off to a bit of a rocky start this season; they ended their first game against College of the South-Sewanee with a final score of 13-5. Yet this game was not without its victories for the Crusaders.

Being only the second time the girls had played on a field due to bad weather conditions in weeks past, the team was able to keep up its spirits despite the errors and frustrations of the first two innings, and play clean ball for the rest of the game. By the end all players were making contact with the ball when up to bat, scoring runs, and making good plays in the field.

Senior Annie Adams led the team in hitting with a triple and 2 RBIs, while Freshman Mary-Grace Handy scored two runs due to her speed and aggressive base-running. The outfield struggled to meet Sewanee's batters in the first two innings, but led by freshman center fielder Annemarie Speer, settled in by the 3rd inning and began to make clean catches and throws, thus preventing runs.

The initial nervousness having left the team, they went on to play respectable softball and put up a tougher competition in the second game of the double header against Sewanee.
