Lady Crusaders Defeat Trinity in First of Doubleheader

The women's softball team traveled to Maryland on Monday in order to take on Trinity for a second time this season. The entire team brought their A-game. In the first game of the doubleheader, The Lady Crusaders immediately jumped on the ball in the first inning and scored 10 runs, with doubles from Bridget Handy and Maggie Adams. The rest of their offensive game remained much the same; the team ended with 17 runs in 5 innings.

On the defensive end, Mary Solitario started off pitching in the first game. She struggled with the first 5 batters, allowing 2 runs, but soon settled in and got out of the inning with 3 consecutive strikeouts. For each of the next four innings the team played tight defense and only let 2 batters get on base, not letting either score.

Junior Elizabeth Rensch played a great defensive game behind the plate; she did not let any more than 2 balls get past her, and made a clutch out at first to end the 4th inning. Solitario closed out the game by striking out the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th batters in Trinity's lineup. She finished with 12 strikeouts, and the whole team finished with no errors.

The final score of game 1 was 17-2.
