Lady Crusaders Drop Road Contest to MBU
Front Royal, Va.- Christendom Women's Basketball put together another tough, defensive-minded effort on Wednesday night but ultimately came up short in a 57–47 road loss to Mary Baldwin. Despite stretches of strong execution and a promising start, the Crusaders were unable to overcome scoring droughts and a late offensive surge from the Fighting Squirrels.
Christendom opened the game with confidence, defending well in the half court and attacking the boards to build a 16–10 lead after the first quarter. But momentum shifted in the second, as Mary Baldwin capitalized on turnovers and cold shooting to outscore the Crusaders and take a 26–22 advantage into halftime.
The third quarter saw Christendom work its way back into contention. Improved ball movement and determined rebounding trimmed the deficit, and the Crusaders entered the fourth still within striking distance at 38–35. However, Mary Baldwin controlled the final frame, using pressure defense and timely scoring to gradually pull away. Christendom continued to compete to the final whistle, but the offensive rhythm never fully returned, sealing the 57–47 final.
Christendom's production was carried by its core, with Georgie Snyder leading the team with 17 points and eight rebounds. Lucy Pennefather delivered another strong interior performance with 13 points and 16 rebounds, while Mary Pennefather added 12 boards and seven assists to go along with her scoring.
Despite the loss, Christendom's effort on the glass and defensive consistency showed clear competitive identity early in the season. The Crusaders will look to build on that foundation as they move deeper into their non-conference slate.
Up Next: With the loss, Christendom falls to 1-1. They take on Appentice on the road next on December 6.
