Christendom Pulls Away in Second Half to Defeat PSU Mont Alto
Front Royal, Va. — Christendom Women's Basketball used a strong second and third quarter to earn a 53–43 home victory over PSU Mont Alto on Tuesday evening.
The visitors held a narrow edge early, leading 16–14 after the first quarter, but Christendom responded with improved ball movement and defensive pressure in the second. The Crusaders outscored PSU Mont Alto 15–4 in the period to take a 29–20 advantage into halftime.
Christendom continued to control the tempo after the break, extending its lead to 41–31 at the end of the third quarter. PSU Mont Alto attempted to close the gap in the fourth, but the Crusaders remained steady on both ends, limiting second-chance opportunities and converting timely baskets to secure the 10-point win.
Mary Pennefather led Christendom with 16 points and six rebounds, while Sydnie Villarreal added 14 points and seven rebounds, knocking down three three-pointers. Lucy Pennefather anchored the paint with nine points and a team-high 12 rebounds. Libby Kolesar was a force on the glass, pulling down 14 rebounds, including six offensive boards, to help Christendom control possession throughout the game.
Up Next: The victory improved Christendom's record to 7-5. The Crusaders continue their home slate as they prepare to take on Washington Adventist University next in a rematch on Monday, February 9.
