Christendom Women’s Basketball to Seek Third National Title at USCAA National Championship Tournament
Front Royal, Va.- Christendom's women's basketball team is ready to defend their national title for the third year in a row. The team earned an invite to the USCAA National Championship tournament for the fourth straight year this week, entering the tournament as the #7 seed.
Christendom returns to nationals with a championship pedigree, having captured the USCAA title in back-to-back years — including a dramatic 63–60 victory last season. This year, the team arrives as the underdogs after finishing the season with a 10-6 record and a #7 overall seed — a drop from their #1 ranking last year, but still an impressive finish in a rebuilding year for Christendom.
Mary Pennefather led the way for Christendom throughout the season, finishing sixth in the USCAA in points per game. Close behind was her sister, Lucy Pennefather, who ranked eighth in scoring, giving the Crusaders one of the top scoring duos in the tournament field.
With the regular season complete, Christendom will travel to Buffalo, New York, following Mass on Sunday, March 1, to prepare for tournament play. First-round games begin Tuesday, March 3, with Christendom playing the #2 overall seed UMaine Augusta in the first round of the tournament. Competition will continue through the championship game on Saturday, March 7.
As they prepare for the national tournament, the team is seeking to raise $6,000 to help cover travel, meals, and tournament expenses. Supporters who would like to contribute to Christendom's championship run can visit here.
