Lady Crusaders Achieve Another Shutout
The Lady Crusaders took on the Valley Forge Patriots Saturday, 9/19/15 at Valley Forge College.
The Lady Crusaders opened with a strong first half as they quickly dominated the field, maintaining possession of the ball.  Sophomore Bryn Burgess led the Crusaders by scoring the first goal of the game, assisted by Junior Anne Nelson.  Freshman Mary Grace Handy brought the score to 2-0 with an assist from Sophomore Catherine Gaetano.  Then, about five minutes later, Handy drew a foul in the box and gained a penalty kick for the Crusaders which was netted by Junior Anne Nelson.  This three goal cushion allowed the Lady Crusaders to continue to control the rest of the half.
In the second half, Bryn Burgess contributed 3 more goals to the tally with assists from Anne Nelson and Sophmore Emily Weichart.  Nelson netted another goal in the 55th minute with an assist from Senior Veronica Wilson.  Then Mary Grace Handy scored the final goal of the game with an assist from Anne Nelson, completing the shutout 8-0. They had 42 shots total, with 24 of these on goal.
Although the Crusaders created a strong attack against the Patriot's defensive line, the Patriot's defense pulled so high that the Crusaders were called offsides 19 times throughout the game.  Christendom's defensive line remained solid allowing only 4 shots on goal, all saved by Junior Goalkeeper Madeline Hill.
Christendom's Lady Crusaders will take on Trinity College at home next Saturday 9/26/15.
